You might think that if a dog twitches in its sleep, it is dreaming of something, and maybe even something good.
An unscientific, but quite plausible explanation. But only experts can name the real reasons.
Let's find out why a sleeping dog twitches and whether it's worth calling a veterinarian.
The reasons for this phenomenon are varied and not always harmless.
Firstly, twitching may be related to the growth of the animal. Active walks can solve the problem.
Secondly, it may be related to anxiety or another disorder. For example, a frightened dog may twitch because it is dreaming about something scary.
Thirdly, the flinching may be related to noise. Dogs do not like loud and sharp sounds – fireworks, thunderstorms, noise or loud music in the neighboring apartment.
Fourthly, this may be a manifestation of diseases such as epilepsy, diabetes or arthritis.
Fifthly, twitching can be explained by the animal’s low mobility during the day, for example, if the dog was not taken outside for some reason.
