Ticks don't care who they bite - dogs or their owners. But if it's not that hard to spot an insect on a human body, it's a different story with dogs.
At the same time, ticks remain equally dangerous for both humans and animals.
Attentive owners inspect their dogs after each walk, starting from early spring and ending with the first frosts.
It is not so easy to detect a tick in thick fur, so it is recommended to carry out treatment, vaccinate animals, and use protection against parasites. But that is not all.
It is important to know what mistakes to avoid when detecting a tick.
Tips for dog owners
1. When examining the animal, start from the head, feel the folds of the skin and comb the fur with a brush.
2. After removing the tick, carefully monitor the condition of your pet - weakness, lethargy and loss of appetite should be a warning sign.
In addition, upset stomach, vomiting, shortness of breath and other symptoms may occur, after which you need to see a doctor.
3. If you find a tick, do not remove it with your bare hands or squeeze it with tweezers or other instruments.
The insect is twisted out by placing a loop of thread over its head at the very site of the bite and twisting it in the opposite direction.
Or special devices are used.
Errors
1. Do not leave the tick's head in the wound. It can be removed with tweezers or a needle after preliminary disinfection.
2. You cannot treat the tick with oil or other aromatic and irritating substances - because of them, it suffocates and releases more saliva into the wound.
3. You can't wait for the tick to fall off on its own after drinking blood. The longer it stays on the dog's body, the more harm it can cause to the pet.
