There are three possible explanations for this behavior of the pet.
The cat was attracted to the warm spot
It is quite possible that the cat just wants to warm up.
In the part of the sofa where a person recently sat, the cat will, of course, be warmer than in another part of the furniture.
The cat was attracted by the smell
The smell of the owner is associated with safety, calmness and security in furry animals.
This is why a cat will take the owner’s place if he has gone far away and has not taken the pet with him.
The familiar place retains the scent of a person, which is why it attracts the cat.
The cat wants to attract attention
Perhaps the pet simply lacks affection and "communication". That is why it tries to attract the owner's attention.
