Many cats have an interesting habit: when the owner gets up from the bed, chair, sofa or armchair, the pet immediately takes the vacant place.

Many people believe that the cat exhibits such behavior to show: “I am the boss here!”

However, do not rush to accuse the cat of impudence, selfishness and arrogance.

Yes, the cat wants to take the place of the owner. But not in a figurative, but in a literal sense. The animal does not at all claim the status of the head of the family.

But what makes a fluffy creature quickly take the place where its owner recently sat or lay?

There are three possible explanations for this behavior of the pet.

The cat was attracted to the warm spot

It is quite possible that the cat just wants to warm up.

In the part of the sofa where a person recently sat, the cat will, of course, be warmer than in another part of the furniture.

The cat was attracted by the smell

The smell of the owner is associated with safety, calmness and security in furry animals.

This is why a cat will take the owner’s place if he has gone far away and has not taken the pet with him.

The familiar place retains the scent of a person, which is why it attracts the cat.

The cat wants to attract attention

Perhaps the pet simply lacks affection and "communication". That is why it tries to attract the owner's attention.

Sitting in someone else's place is one of the easiest ways for a cat to achieve the desired result.

Earlier we explained why a cat owner needs foil.
