Dog owners notice that their pet may start scratching its bed. You might think that the dog is unhappy about something, but this is not the case.

There is no need to be particularly surprised, since the behavior is directly related to the instincts or character of the animal.

Experts have revealed the reasons that prompt dogs to scratch their beds.

This is mainly an instinct that modern dogs inherited from their distant ancestors.

1. This is how dogs mark their territory.

They do this not like cats, but with their hind paws, just like when they bury the ground outside after going to the toilet.

Thanks to this, the smell of dog paws remains on the surface (ground or bed) and the dog informs its relatives that this territory belongs to it.

2. The second reason to do this is to prepare for sleep and take a defensive posture while resting.

3. And the simplest reason is to clean the bed from debris that may interfere with the pet.

Alternatively, the dog may not like the surface heated by its own body.

It is believed that a dog will do this even if it has been given a perfect bed.
