Not everyone gets cheerful kittens as pets that can be easily trained to use a litter box.
An adult cat is a creature with its own habits, and it will not be possible to force it to follow the established order in the house right away.
RBC experts explained how to train an adult cat to use a litter box.
Algorithm of actions
1. First, you need to buy a tray that is the right size for your pet and use filler for the first time so that your pet can feel closer to natural conditions.
Place the tray in a place accessible to your pet.
2. Then you need to deprive the animal of the opportunity to relieve itself in other secluded places. This could be a closet, the space behind the sofa, or any secluded corner in the house.
3. We also remove carpets and other floor coverings.
4. Carefully monitor the animal's behavior. As soon as it needs to go to the toilet, the animal will start looking for a secluded place in the apartment. Help it with the choice.
5. If the attempts are successful, the cat should be rewarded. Best with food.
6. Otherwise, you need to put the cat's excrement in the tray. In the future, the pet will determine by smell where it can do its personal business.
7. If your pet doesn’t want to use the litter box, you need to move it to the place where he decided to make a toilet.
But if this doesn’t help, then you will have to treat the corners and hidden places with a protective spray that repels animals, forcing them to go where they are supposed to.
