Domestic cats don't have as many entertainment options as their owners might think. Cats have even been shown to experience boredom.

It happens that cats start hunting for flies. Let's find out what this could be connected with and whether such a snack is harmful to the pet.

Why does a cat catch flies?

Experts never cease to remind us that cats remain predators by nature, despite their long-standing domestication.

It is impossible to assume that the cat does this because it has nothing to eat. Both a well-fed and a hungry pet catches flies with equal eagerness.

There is only one explanation: this is additional entertainment where you can demonstrate the qualities of a hunter and a breadwinner.

Are flies harmful to cats?

Having dealt with the parasite, pets often eat the prey. And flies are known to be carriers of infections. In addition, the insect can be a carrier of parasites that in the future will cause health problems for the pet, with digestion in particular.

But we can only talk about a real threat if the animal eats not just one or two caught flies, but a whole handful at once.

It is also worth remembering that an innocent hobby can end in a fall from a window if there is no mosquito net, and this has completely different consequences.
