While humans spend most of their lives sleeping, cats, at least it seems that way, sleep or doze all the time.
I would like to know why pets sleep so much if they do not have to hunt or otherwise obtain food.
It is estimated that cats sleep up to 16 hours a day, which is 2 times more than is considered normal for humans. But do not forget that even during sleep, cats have to remain vigilant. And with age, that is, over 10 years, cats sleep even more.
Why do cats sleep? They have 7 reasons.
1. Drowsiness
Cats often nap for 15-30 minutes. This is more of a necessity than a whim. This is how cats maintain physical vigor and mental energy.
2. Save energy
To play and frolic, a cat needs strength. To do this, it can take a nap or even sleep for 1-2 hours.
3. Mode
Pets are most active at dawn and dusk. Many prefer to stay awake at night. This will continue until the cat finds something to do during the day.
4. Boredom
If a cat is bored, it will go to sleep. Therefore, owners must take care of the pet's interests, otherwise there will be no peace at night.
5. Anxiety and stress
If your cat has started sleeping more, it is possible that the family routine has changed, feeding times have changed, or other reasons have arisen that have caused your pet to be uneasy.
6. Disease
Cats sleep more than usual due to illness or weakness. This can be diabetes and kidney disease, heart disease, liver disease, infections.
7. Injuries
Given the lifestyle and habits of animals, it is not worth excluding the occurrence of such injuries as muscle strain and ligament rupture. This can also be the cause of a long sleep, which promotes wound healing and recovery of the body.
