Many people know that lack of sleep is harmful. But few are aware of what prolonged sleep can lead to.

It turns out that those who sleep more than nine hours expose themselves to a huge risk of “acquiring” a stroke.

As a study by Icelandic scientists has shown, for this category of citizens the corresponding risk increases by 85%.

According to specialized scientific publications, the study is based on information from a project in which 32,000 people participated.

None of them had any serious illnesses.

The average age of the subjects was 62 years.

The study was conducted over six years.

All these years, scientists have been studying citizens for their sleep patterns and analyzing their medical histories.

It turned out that those who slept more than 9 hours a day (24% of participants) or rested during the day for more than 1.5 hours (8%) had an 85% higher risk of stroke compared to those who slept 7-8 hours a day.

According to researchers, prolonged sleep is fraught with a high probability of developing vascular diseases.

Those who exceeded the recommended amount of sleep per night had a 23% increased risk of stroke.

But long daytime sleep is no less dangerous: if rest lasts more than 90 minutes, the risk of developing vascular diseases increases by 25%.
