When hearing the word "thank you", many people respond with: "You're welcome!"
There are other similar options: "Ouch! Nonsense!" and "No need to thank me."
All these options are very bad and should be abandoned.
Why the expression "You're welcome" is bad
The point is that this phrase devalues the assistance provided.
A person who has contributed to the solution of a particular problem actually admits that his contribution is insignificant.
Your interlocutor may even be offended.
And this is quite understandable: a person failed to cope with a particular task, they helped him, but immediately explained that the task was very simple. In such a situation, it is easy to feel like a "weakling" or "incompetent".
But it's not even about the possible reaction of the interlocutor. By saying the phrase "You're welcome," you make it worse for yourself: it turns out that you don't value your own contribution and consider your time wasted.
Don't be so modest. Avoid using the phrases "You're welcome," "Nonsense," and "No need to thank me."
How to Respond Properly to Gratitude
It is much better to use the word "please": your interlocutor will certainly be pleased to hear such an answer.
A good option is also the following phrase: “I was glad to help!”
