Postpartum depression is a form of depressive disorder that develops immediately after childbirth.
It occurs in approximately 20% of women, but some signs may be found in more women.
Signs of postpartum depression may include:
- excessive irritability;
- apathy and loss of interest in life;
- loss of appetite or, conversely, excessive appetite;
- uncontrollable rage and desire to harm the child;
- drowsiness;
- anxiety, panic attacks;
- a feeling of worthlessness and guilt.
Of course, the best thing is to prevent postpartum depression, says Ksenia Sysoeva .
There are several ways.
- Enlist the support and help of loved ones, parents, husband, and girlfriends.
- If possible, invite a housekeeper or nanny.
- Take time for yourself, go to beauty salons, meet with friends, pursue hobbies.
- When the child sleeps, also sleep or rest, do not do household chores.
- Don't work. Your job at the moment is child care.
- Get rid of the desire to be an ideal wife, mother and housewife. Perhaps, it is even worth unsubscribing from all the bloggers on social networks who manage to do everything (most often, this is just an image, but it makes women feel worthless).
If you have already discovered the signs in yourself, here are some tips on how to help yourself during this difficult period.
1. Talk to your loved ones, get support and ask for help with the child and around the house.
2. Go for a massage or to the pool, go for a walk, meet with friends, do a hobby on a regular basis. Remember that this is not a whim, but a necessity!
3. Find a person who can be there and help you live through your condition and is ready to share all your feelings. This could be a friend, sister, mentor, psychologist. It is important that this person is supportive and is for you.
4. In some cases, medical assistance from a specialist is required. Consult a psychotherapist or psychiatrist, only they can make a diagnosis and prescribe appropriate treatment. Remember that you should not let this condition take its course, it can threaten the life and health of you and your child!
