A leader leads people, and a boss manages subordinates.
These are two different concepts, each of which has its own characteristics, but recently many managers are striving to obtain the status of a leader in order to strengthen their position and create a team that effectively copes with the tasks set.
The good news is that this can be learned. And today, foreign economic activity expert Anna Fomicheva told us how to do it.
A dream team – it sounds proud, honorable and responsible. But it is the leader who is able to create such a team, starting first of all with himself. Pay attention to the following seven main skills that will help you achieve what you want.
Skill number one: surround yourself with professionals
A true leader is not afraid to hire smart people. He knows that you should not be afraid of those who are in their place and solve problems effectively, but of unqualified employees who will not lift a finger without total control.
A good leader and competent manager will not tolerate a person in his team who is unable to cope with his direct responsibilities.
Today, many entrepreneurs are not afraid to hire highly qualified professionals for fear that they will steal ideas, start their own company and poach all the clients. This fear can be easily overcome by delegating routine processes, such as marketing.
But if the manager keeps key tasks for himself - developing the company's strategy, relations with suppliers and communication with partners - the business will not only not suffer, but will also prosper.
Skill two: the ability to think big and long-term
There is a saying that "it is a bad soldier who does not dream of becoming a general." And therefore, a good leader necessarily makes plans for the future, creates a long-term strategy and scales up over time.
The desire to earn a million rubles is logical, but if an entrepreneur stops at this, afraid of greater responsibility, he will sooner or later face stagnation and then decline.
Each achieved goal should be followed by another, more global one. And it is very important to set goals wisely and pragmatically.
Skill Three: Delegation
At the very beginning, a few competent assistants are enough for an entrepreneur. But owners of small companies, as a rule, try to save money and maintain sole control over all processes. And they do all the business alone. This is a big mistake.
As soon as a company grows or simply moves to a new level of development, it is impossible to do without a well-staffed staff.
The leader understands this and knows how to distribute responsibilities in the team. He calmly delegates many routine processes to competent and loyal specialists: phone calls, sales, accounting, advertising, etc.
Skill number four: be responsible for the decisions you make
Delegating tasks does not mean that an entrepreneur can ignore his responsibilities. A good manager will never allow someone else to make key important decisions.
He can and should get the necessary information from people on the ground, but the final word will always remain with him.
Skill number five: the ability to part with employees
In today's reality, a dream team is not an eternal and permanently established team. And therefore, it is worthwhile to organize work in such a way that it is possible to quickly replace a departing employee without losses for the business.
Also, unfortunately, not every applicant reveals himself fully during the interview.
Often, character and professional skills are revealed during work, and if a leader understands that a team member is not suitable for the company, he will be able to part with him painlessly, without waiting for problems and conflict situations.
Skill Six: Persuasion
They say that persuasion is a gift. But in reality, it is just a skill that anyone can master.
The main thing is to be able to express your thoughts competently and clearly and explain yourself rationally, without getting emotional.
The leader clearly understands that each employee has their own trigger points, loyalty level and motivation. He not only sets the task, but also communicates with the team in such a way that employees do not experience negativity in controversial situations.
A good manager will also not abandon his people at critical moments and risk their commitment to the cause.
Habit Seven: Positive Thinking and Taking Care of Yourself and Your Team
The image of a perpetually dissatisfied boss from jokes is often true. But this is not about leadership at all. If you want to lead a loyal team of good specialists, forget about the “I’m the boss, you’re a fool” scheme. Work with your emotional background, acquire the habit of speaking calmly and measuredly, and don’t take it out on your subordinates.
A manager’s bad mood and personal problems will not motivate the team to work effectively and will not help communicate with clients.
Therefore, take care of your health, choose a properly structured daily routine, rest, having hobbies and vacations, self-development. They directly affect your well-being and do not allow your psyche to become exhausted.
