In modern society, people often talk about the various psychological and neurotic traumas that occur as a result of a person's growing up.
Psychologist Lyubov Trofimova explained what an inferiority complex is.
One of the most striking manifestations of the consequences of traumatic events is an inferiority complex, which is a combination of various traumas, attitudes and negative experiences that occurred over a period of time.
An inferiority complex manifests itself due to the following reasons:
- physical disabilities: differences in appearance from others, incapacity, obvious illnesses;
- deviations in physiological or psychological development;
- emotional deficits: lack of attention from parents, loneliness, inability to find a common language with peers;
- emotional excesses: increased attention, overprotection and hypercontrol.
The feeling of inferiority begins to emerge and manifest itself in childhood, when the child studies the world and the communication of people in it.
He is quite receptive to the environment and absorbs everything that happens around him: the relationship between parents, interaction with him, communication between children and what this leads to.
Children quickly and clearly absorb information also on an emotional level, which leads to the formation of a feeling of being wrong, not like everyone else, due to the fact that they were laughed at or made fun of in childhood.
When a person grows up, he begins to try to compensate for the deficiencies received in childhood, and because of this, hypercompensation begins to occur.
If a child often felt shy in childhood, then, as he grows up, he shows an increased desire to talk to everyone, and so on with every point where he received a lack of attention or acceptance as he is.
The feeling of inferiority develops from a painful and emotional memory that was received at an earlier age. The person does not remember the event or situation when it happened, but a feeling of incomprehensible anxiety or lack of attention makes him look for similar situations and be in them constantly.
Signs that define an inferiority complex:
- lack of confidence in oneself and one's abilities;
- increased tension and embarrassment;
- desire to be invisible in companies;
- low self-esteem;
- the feeling that those around you are many times superior and dominant.
If the development of an inferiority complex is not noticed, it leads to psychological disorders and disturbances.
For example, a person develops depression, develops a tendency toward suicidal thoughts, and exhibits victim syndrome and constant self-pity.
Other signs of an inferiority complex are a person’s attempts to attract attention to themselves or total isolation, fear of making a mistake and a constant feeling of uncontrollable anxiety about the circumstances happening around them.
It is not possible to get out of these states without the help of a specialist, because an inferiority complex is a psychological illness based on early trauma.
And you need to get rid of it by living through and analyzing the painful situation under the supervision of a psychologist.
