Don't Blame Yourself: How to Survive a Loved One's Cheating

21.01.2025 08:33

If you are betrayed by a loved one, the easiest thing to do is to start self-destructing, but for obvious reasons, you shouldn’t do that.

Instead, make every effort to maintain your dignity when you find yourself in such a situation and not make mistakes that will lead to things getting worse.

1. Don't blame yourself for being cheated on. There's nothing wrong with you: you're attractive enough, smart enough, and successful enough.

Cheating is entirely your partner's choice and responsibility, so if you blame yourself, it will only hurt you more. And your self-esteem will plummet.

2. What are you feeling now? Surely the emotions are not the most pleasant: anger, resentment, pain, rage. You should not pretend that everything is fine with you and hide your feelings - give them an outlet.

You can cry or talk to a friend or a psychologist.

3. And again, let’s talk about emotions – you shouldn’t let them guide you when making important decisions.

After cheating, your first impulse may be to seek revenge or end the relationship, but instead, give yourself time to cool down and think about what happened before deciding what to do next.

4. Also, forbid yourself from looking for information about the person you were cheated on with. If you start comparing yourself to him, it will only hurt more.

A mistress is no better than you, she is just different. And the problem is not her, but the cheater, so spend your energy not on someone else's life, but on your own, on your desires, goals and emotions.

5. If you are in pain and it is hard, do not tolerate it and do not keep it inside. Talk - with your family, friends or a psychologist, and you will see that the burden of emotions is not so heavy anymore.

Besides, a heart-to-heart talk will allow you to look at what happened from a different perspective.

And remember: betrayal is not the end of life, but just another test.
