It's hard to believe, but when choosing a partner with whom they would like to spend their whole life, people pay attention to the voice, among other things.
We will share the results of an interesting study, in which more than 2,500 residents from 22 countries participated. The subjects were aged from 16 to 40 years.
Participants listened to recordings of different voices and guessed what kind of character their owners had. They also tried to assess the speakers' appearance and answered the question of who they would be likely to build a relationship with – short-term or long-term.
After listening to male voices, men said they perceived those with deep, rough voices as more prestigious and menacing. Researchers attribute this reaction to competition between men.
They found the low timbre of the girls' voices very attractive, while the high female voice had a repulsive effect on men.
Women, in turn, considered the high timbre of the girls' voices to be a sign of coquetry and infantilism and came to the conclusion that it does not attract men, which scientists also explained by high competition.
Among male voices, the study participants named those with a low timbre as the most attractive. Women associate such a voice with high status and masculinity.
