Radishes that should be juicy turn into empty "bladders"?
The culprit is incorrect crop rotation!
Dr. Lisa Green of the University of Wisconsin-Madison explains that if cabbage or turnips were grown in the garden before radishes, the soil is oversaturated with sulfur compounds.
They block the growth of root crops, making them porous.
A gardener from Belgorod wrote on the forum "Dachny Klub":
![Why does the radish become empty? The predecessors, who are kept silent, are to blame radish](https://www.belnovosti.com/sites/default/files/2025-02/photo_2022-06-01_18-24-42.jpg)
“After the cabbage, my radishes became like a sponge – you could squeeze them out!”
Solution? Plant radishes after onions or garlic - their phytoncides disinfect the soil.
And if you add dolomite flour (a source of calcium) to the soil, as recommended by Veggie Grower magazine, the radishes will become dense and crispy.
Don't let invisible enemies steal your harvest - plan your plantings wisely!
