As is known, bark protects trees from the negative impact of the environment, taking the blows on itself.

It suffers from sunburn, cracks due to temperature fluctuations and serves as a haven for pests.

In addition, pathogens penetrate the plant through the resulting damage.

Therefore, whitewashing can be compared to a “mantle” that reliably protects the bark of plants and prevents it from deteriorating.

When to whitewash trees

The procedure of whitewashing trees should be carried out twice a year: in spring and autumn.

At the beginning of the season

Some summer residents start whitewashing the trees on their plots as early as February, when the sun begins to warm more strongly and can burn the bark.

In addition, at the end of winter and early spring, temperature fluctuations are often observed: during the day the thermometer shows "plus", and at night it drops to negative values. Such fluctuations lead to the formation of frost cracks - cracks in the bark.

It is best to whitewash trees before the beginning of April to get the maximum benefit from the procedure.

However, if weather conditions or other circumstances do not allow you to do this on time (for example, it is constantly snowing, raining, or you simply do not have time), try to finish the work before the beginning of May.

In the fall

The best time for autumn whitewashing is in such months as October and November. Focus on the climate conditions of your region and follow the weather forecast.

The most important thing is to provide protection for the trees before the frost comes.
