Many summer residents have planted thuja on their summer cottages.

And they did the right thing: the plant is beautiful and easy to care for.

In addition, the representative of the cypress family purifies the air, acts as a hedge and a protective strip.

However, thuja is “afraid” of certain plants.

So, there are several representatives of flora that can negatively affect the “main character” of the article.

What should not be planted next to thuja

Birch should not grow next to a representative of the cypress family: it will “take away” a lot of nutrients from the thuja.

Serious competitors for thuja will be apple trees, pears and other fruit trees with a powerful root system.

The willow will also be a bad “neighbor”: it is possible that it will “force” the thuja to lose its needles and young branches.

Ferns should not grow next to a coniferous plant either: they can create excess moisture, which will negatively affect the roots of the “main character” of the article.

It is also advisable that currants and gooseberries do not appear near the thuja: the latter may be sources of diseases that pose a serious danger to the representative of the cypress family.

By the way, the thuja itself will have a negative impact on the fruit bushes: the latter will clearly produce a poor harvest.

Remember: there should be at least six meters between the thuja and fruit trees/bushes.
