English ivy covering walls, houses and fences certainly looks very picturesque.
However, such “decoration” is not safe for buildings, reminds the expert of the online publication “BelNovosti”, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh.
Ivy can cause structural damage to structures, so don't be fooled by its appearance.
In addition to causing damage to buildings, ivy also harms plants, particularly trees growing in the garden, as it attaches itself to supports, forming roots along the stems.
Finally, one of the disadvantages of this plant is that it is not easy to get rid of.
However, the last drawback is easily solved - here is what experienced gardeners do when they want to get rid of ivy.
To do this, you first need to cut down the plant and then dig up its underground part.
Cut the root at the base, and after a few weeks, carefully separate all parts of the ivy from the wall or other support - this is enough time for the ivy to dry out.
All that remains is to dig up the root and destroy it completely.
This is the only way to get rid of this plant completely, as ivy is resistant to most herbicides and its leaves are protected by a waterproof layer.
For reference
Ivy is a genus of plants in the Araliaceae family.
