Potatoes, like other vegetable seeds, need to be prepared for planting, but in a slightly different way.

Not all gardeners do this correctly, being content mainly with tubers with shoots.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti" - a scientist agronomist and landscape designer, told how to prepare potato seeds for planting so that the tubers also develop roots.

Germination methods

1. Usually the tubers are left in a light and warm room for 20-30 days.

It is important that a comfortable air temperature is maintained in the room.

This is the so-called dry type of germination.

2. There is another option for preparing seed potatoes, for which the tubers are placed in boxes and lightly sprinkled with a mixture of wet peat, humus and sawdust.

The box should be left in a dark place, in a warm room.

This method is good because it allows you to get tubers not only with sprouts, but also with roots.

In addition, potatoes dry out less and retain nutrients better.

Important

Don't forget to treat the tubers against diseases and pests.

Usually in these cases, gardeners are advised to use copper sulfate, boric acid or potassium permanganate.

The tubers are soaked in prepared solutions for 3 hours or sprayed from a spray bottle.
