Having grown strong and healthy seedlings, the gardener faces a new task. He has to transport the seedlings to the dacha, and then prepare them for transplantation.
It doesn’t matter whether you are planting in open ground or in a greenhouse, the preparation rules are the same.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", a scientist, agronomist and landscape designer, told how to prepare seedlings for transplantation.
First of all, the deadlines
It is important to accurately calculate the time for sowing seeds, otherwise the seedlings risk overstaying in the pots.
This means that from the moment the seedlings appear until the plants are transplanted into the beds, 50 to 70 days should pass.
Secondly, the conditions
It is important that the plants develop evenly.
This means that the stem and shoots must be developed and strong, and the roots must be powerful enough.
To do this, you need to follow the watering, fertilizing, and lighting regime. Be sure to pay attention to the quality of the soil.
How to prepare seedlings
Preparation begins approximately 2-3 days before transplantation.
First, you need to stop watering the plants.
Secondly, 1-2 hours before transplanting into the ground, water the plants to make it easier to remove them from the container.
Thirdly, don’t forget to add compost or humus to the holes.
Fourthly, while working, make sure that plants with bare roots are not left without soil for more than half an hour.
Fifthly, after transplanting into open ground, be sure to protect the seedlings from the sun and wind with agrofibre or other material.
After this, maintain soil moisture, monitor the seedlings and promptly remove dry and damaged shoots.
The first feeding is carried out approximately 2-3 weeks after transplantation.
