For many gardeners, roses have long been the main decoration of the plot. Many look with envy at the lushly blooming clematis, wondering what is wrong with this plant.
The whole secret is in the correct fit.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", a scientist agronomist and landscape designer, told how to plant clematis correctly.
Where to plant
1. It should be a sunny place, but on a hot afternoon the sun should not burn the flowers.
You can create light shade with the help of neighboring plants.
2. Clematis is afraid of cold wind and drafts.
3. Choose a site with low groundwater and drained soils. Constant stagnation of moisture is also not beneficial.
4. Drainage must be placed at the bottom of the hole. A soil mixture of peat, compost and sand will do. Fertilizers can be added.
5. Make sure that the root collar of the plant is deepened by 5-8 cm. After planting, mulch the soil - this will protect the plant from overheating.
When to plant
It is possible in spring, but only after the weather has become consistently warm.
Spring or autumn frosts can cause harm. Remember that the root system after planting should strengthen before the onset of cold weather.
Care
Clematis definitely needs support. This could be decorative trellises, arches, or nearby plants.
Water with settled water regularly but carefully to avoid moisture stagnation.
Fertilize 3 weeks after planting (nitrogen the first time, and then complex mineral fertilizers).
At the beginning of budding, potassium-phosphorus additives are added.
