Gardeners and vegetable growers talk a lot and often about the benefits of fallen leaves for the fertile soil layer.
There are many opponents of this theory, who remind us of diseases and pests that hide in fallen leaves. But these troubles can be avoided.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", a scientist, agronomist, landscape designer, told how to properly make compost from fallen leaves.
Instead of burning leaves and using the ash left behind, you can compost the plant remains.
How to proceed
1. You will need black plastic bags and a Trichoderma solution.
Collected fallen leaves will rot faster if you place them not in a hole or pile, but in black plastic bags.
They will heat up better and faster from sunlight. The recycling process will also proceed faster.
2. The leaves need to be tightly packed into a bag, then add the Trichoderma solution.
The fungus not only speeds up the process of converting leaves into fertilizer, but also destroys bacteria and fungal spores.
3. Then you need to tie the bag, make 2-3 holes for ventilation and leave the bags in the sun.
If everything is done correctly, then by spring of next year you will be able to get ready compost.
It will be rich in humic compounds and microelements necessary for the fertile soil layer.
