When it comes to fertilizing garlic, rarely does anyone think about starch.

But it can become a real salvation for gardeners.

This powder, which is usually added to sauces or dough, helps strengthen the roots, stimulates growth and saturates the plant with useful elements.

At first glance, starch is a simple product consisting of carbohydrates. But not everything is so primitive. It contains substances that have a beneficial effect on the development of garlic:

  • Starch helps improve the structure of the soil, making it lighter and more able to retain air.
  • natural carbohydrates stimulate the root system, helping the plant to absorb nutrients;
  • The composition contains microelements that strengthen the health of garlic.

Another advantage is absolute safety. This is a natural remedy that will not harm either plants or people.

In order for starch to be beneficial, it is important to prepare the fertilizer correctly. Do not sprinkle it directly on the ground - this will only make the situation worse. There are several simple but effective recipes.

Classic solution. This method is suitable for regular care. You will need:

  1. two tablespoons of starch;
  2. one liter of water;
  3. half a teaspoon of wood ash (optional).

The starch is thoroughly mixed in water until completely dissolved. The solution is slightly heated so that it becomes warm, but not hot. The resulting mixture is poured directly under the root of the garlic, avoiding contact with the leaves.

Liquid infusion with additives. This method is effective during the period of active growth:

1. Dissolve a tablespoon of starch in a liter of warm water;
2. add a teaspoon of honey;
3. Leave to brew for 2-3 hours.

The resulting infusion nourishes the plant and strengthens its immunity. Watering with such a solution is carried out once every two weeks.

Using potato starch is a delicate matter. In order not to harm the plant, you need to follow several rules:

  • do not exceed the dosage - excess starch can clog the soil and disrupt water exchange;
  • do not water garlic with starch in cold weather - this will slow down the process of absorption of nutrients;
  • Do not use powder with additives - flavors and colors from starch for cooking can harm the plant.

It is worth feeding garlic with starch at certain periods:

1. early spring – to stimulate growth;
2. June – during the formation of bulbs;
3. End of July – to strengthen the plant before harvesting.
