Every summer resident needs to know the acidity of the soil in their area.
This information will help you choose the right plants for planting.
After all, some representatives of the flora “like” acidic soil, while others like neutral or alkaline soil.
The first group includes such popular garden crops as carrots, radishes and peppers.
Representatives of the second group are cabbage, cucumbers and beets.
What to do if you don’t know the acidity of the soil in your own suburban area?
Don't worry: you can find out the necessary information without any special equipment.
There is a very simple and quick test that involves using... vinegar.
An expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh spoke about this interesting option for checking the pH of the soil.
How to quickly determine the acidity of the soil
Take some container, pour some soil that needs to be tested into it and add a few drops of nine percent vinegar.
Next, monitor the “behavior” of the container’s contents.
If a reaction begins with hissing and the formation of a large amount of foam, then the soil is alkaline.
If there is not much white bubbly mass and the sound that appears is weak, then the soil being tested can be called neutral.
But a complete absence of foam indicates that the soil is acidic.
