One of the nuances in gardening is the calculation of the sowing date. Perhaps this is the basis of agricultural technology and the key to a rich harvest.

It is no secret that all seeds are planted in their own time. It is important to take all factors into account.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti" - a scientist agronomist and landscape designer, told how not to make a mistake when calculating the date of sowing seeds for seedlings.

What to consider when calculating

In addition to the varietal characteristics and requirements of the crop, it is necessary to remember the climatic conditions, the possibility of providing illumination and temperature conditions for the seedlings.

It is extremely important to have an idea of the date of transplanting seedlings into the ground or into a greenhouse.

Calculation formula

As an example, let's consider the calculation of the sowing period for seedlings of the most popular crops.

The main headache for a gardener is tomato and pepper seedlings.

Peppers are sown 65-85 days before the date of transplanting seedlings into the ground.

Tomatoes require significantly less time. Depending on the variety, at least 50-60 days should pass from the sowing date to transplanting.

Cabbage is sown 35-40 days in advance, and cucumbers (pumpkin) 25-30 days in advance.

Gardeners are often advised to add days to this period for seed germination or germination.

Cabbage or cucumbers can sprout in a period of 3-4 to 5-6 days. But peppers and eggplants require 10 to 12 days.
