Installing a fence is a necessity that any owner of a country house will have to face.

The good news is that even on a budget, there are plenty of options to help you define the boundaries of your property and keep it private.

In this article, we will look at three popular fencing options – corrugated sheeting, chain-link fencing and slate, and also analyze their advantages and disadvantages.

Profiled sheeting

Profiled sheeting made of cold-rolled metal is one of the most common fencing solutions. It can serve as both a temporary and permanent fence.

The ideal choice is a galvanized metal sheet with a ribbed or wavy surface (rib height – 20-44 mm), as such sheets are highly durable and have a service life of up to 50 years.

The main advantages of corrugated sheets include, as already mentioned, their durability: the material is resistant to temperature changes and is not afraid of corrosion. A fence made of corrugated sheets protects from street noise, dust and unwanted views. The material is available in different colors and textures, which allows you to choose the right option for your landscape.

However, corrugated sheets also have disadvantages: they completely block out light, which can have a negative effect on plants planted nearby. Strong winds cause the material to become highly wind-resistant, and high humidity can cause rust to form at the attachment points.

Chain link fencing

Chain-link fencing is also often chosen by summer residents due to its affordable price and ease of installation. It can be woven or welded, and is made from galvanized, regular, and plasticized wire.

Unlike non-galvanized mesh, which is susceptible to corrosion, galvanized and plasticized mesh are ideal for long-term use.

Let's list the advantages of the chain-link mesh. It is easy to install on wooden, metal or concrete supports, it does not create obstacles to light and air, which has a positive effect on the growth of crops, and it copes well with its functions, fencing the site and ensuring its safety.

However, it should be taken into account that with such a fence you will not get complete privacy.

Slate

Slate is most often used as a roofing material, but it can also serve as a fence.

Corrugated or flat sheets made from asbestos cement can be either grey or coloured.

A solid slate fence protects the area from dust and prying eyes, and it is also resistant to changes in temperature and humidity.

However, there are some negative qualities that are worth considering. Slate sheets are quite heavy, which complicates installation, and under the influence of strong loads or impacts, the slate can crack.
