Wood ash is a very useful, but not at all universal fertilizer.
For some plants, ash feeding is strictly contraindicated.
We tell you which crops cannot be treated with ash.
What plants are not fed with ash
Ash cannot be used to feed potatoes, cauliflower, carrots, sorrel, or rhubarb.
All acidophilic plants (those that love acidic soil) also react poorly to ash.
These include cranberries, lingonberries, blueberries, and decorative ones include azaleas, hydrangeas, heathers, rhododendrons, and conifers.
Fruit trees, currants, strawberries, gooseberries, and raspberries love ash fertilizer.
Ash can also be used as a means against weeds growing in acidic soils (couch grass, goutweed). The soil should be sprinkled in the spring, before the weeds begin to grow.
