The end of September and the first two weeks of October are the ideal period for planting winter garlic.
Overwintering will allow the plant to “harden off” and acquire protection from dangerous diseases.
In addition, the spicy vegetable will be less vulnerable to pests.
This way, the chances of getting a rich harvest of high quality will be maximised.
That is why many summer residents prefer to plant garlic in the fall.
But what kind of place on your country plot should you choose for this garden crop?
An expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh emphasizes: 3 important conditions must be met.
Sunny place
The area chosen for winter garlic should be well lit.
A shaded area is not suitable for garden crops: due to a lack of sunlight, the garlic heads will not grow large enough.
Moderate humidity
Excessive moisture poses a huge danger to winter garlic.
Due to the abundance of water, the flora representative will begin to rot.
Therefore, do not plant the plant in a lowland or where the groundwater is high.
Light soil
Sandy loam and loamy soil are ideal for winter garlic.
If the soil cover clearly lacks "lightness", then it is worth adding sand and peat. In this case, the soil will acquire looseness and become more suitable for the plant.
