Garlic is not the most capricious plant, which is what gardeners willingly use. One of the common methods is planting garlic in the winter.

The trick is that in the spring the summer resident can save time on planting this crop, and harvest it much earlier.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication BelNovosti, an agronomist and landscape designer, told how not to make a mistake when choosing the date for planting garlic.

Spring or winter

Spring garlic is the one that is planted in spring. Accordingly, winter garlic is the one that is planted before winter.

Spring variety grows small, but stores better.

Winter garlic has large cloves, is pinkish-purple in color and is more pungent. However, its shelf life does not exceed 6 months.

When to plant winter garlic

The difficulty is that before the cold weather sets in, the garlic must take root, but not shoot up, otherwise all the work will be in vain.

There is no point in tying this matter to a date, since the timing depends on the climate and weather of a particular region.

Therefore, those gardeners who plant garlic 2-3 weeks before the onset of stable frosts do the right thing.

You can also focus on the soil temperature. At a depth of 10 centimeters, it should be 14-15 degrees Celsius.
