The end of the summer cottage season seems to be made for gathering another harvest of fresh herbs and even some vegetables.
These crops are not afraid of autumn cold, and the harvest will be collected before the first frost.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told us which vegetables can still be planted at the end of the season.
Lettuce
The latest time to plant it is 8 weeks before the frost in your region. Thanks to the short daylight hours in August, it will not bolt.
And it is better to choose leaf lettuce for sowing at this time.
Spinach
It would be better to plant this crop in a greenhouse. Spinach will have to be protected from low temperatures, and then the harvest can be collected in October.
Parsley
It grows quickly, tolerates cold weather well, and the greens can be harvested almost until late autumn.
Chard
This is one of the varieties of beetroot, but it is valued for its tops, not its roots.
Radish
The root crops need 21 days to ripen, and the heat is the least. Therefore, if you sow radishes at the end of August, you will definitely get another harvest in September.
Also, gardeners grow kohlrabi, carrots (early ripening), kale and pak choi, as well as turnips and arugula at this time.
