Feathers
You should always pay attention to them too. If the garlic has matured, then the lower feathers will almost always look dry.
The feathers themselves also turn noticeably yellow.
The experimental path
You can also take several heads of garlic and visually evaluate them. As a rule, ripe garlic cannot be confused with anything else: the roots look dry and gray, and the garlic itself has changed its color.
