Potatoes, like any other garden crop, need water.

Lack of moisture can negatively affect the condition of garden crops.

But it is important not to overdo it: excess water also has a negative effect on the development of the plant.

Many summer residents do not take this into account, and then are surprised by the lack of a harvest.

An expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh reminded us of two common mistakes when watering potatoes.

Long term lack of watering

Some gardeners are used to leaving the plant for a long time without watering.

This is a gross error, which results in the formation of tubers that are too small. And this is in the best case scenario.

In the worst case, the harvest may be completely lost.

Therefore, do not leave potatoes without watering for a long time. If for some reason you are forced to do this, cover the bed with mulch. It is advisable to use humus or peat.

Overwatering

Potatoes do not need too much water. Excess moisture can have such a negative impact on the condition of the tubers that it will simply not be possible to harvest a quality crop.

Even during hot periods, potatoes need to be watered no more than once every 4 days.

And during cool and rainy periods, 3 waterings per month are sufficient.
