With the arrival of spring, all gardeners, as one, begin to actively prune plants - for their health.

At the same time, some summer residents forget that not all shrubs and trees tolerate this procedure well at this time of year. An expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh told which plants should not be cut in the spring so as not to harm them.

Fruit trees

Apple, pear, cherry and other trees are recommended to be pruned in the fall or late winter, as they are dormant at this time. Pruning in the spring can weaken the trees and increase the risk of infectious diseases.

Early flowering shrubs

This category includes plants such as lilac, jasmine, alpine rose, etc., which bloom on shoots from the previous year. Therefore, due to pruning in the spring, you may lose flowering in the current season. It is better to wait with this procedure and prune the bushes after they have finished flowering.

Coniferous trees

If you are the lucky owner of such conifers as juniper, cypress, etc., remember that they do not need spring pruning, as this can damage their natural protection from cold and frost. It is better to prune them in the fall.

Early flowering trees

Early flowering trees, including magnolia, form buds in the fall or winter. If you prune this plant in the spring, you will simply remove these buds, which will make flowering impossible. To avoid this, it is recommended to prune after flowering has finished.
