When planting cucumbers, gardeners should carefully approach the choice of location. Not only in the sense that it should be a bed protected from the wind.

The main thing is to take into account the neighborhood in the beds, and not just crop rotation.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, reminded us about neighbors for cucumbers.

Unlucky neighbors for cucumbers

Summer residents often complain about the bitter cucumber harvest.

This phenomenon is often explained by an unsuccessful variety, poor care and watering, as well as improper use of fertilizers or supplements.

But fixing these issues sometimes doesn't solve the problem of bitterness.

According to experts, it's all about the neighbors in the garden.

The cucumbers will be bitter.

1. If they are planted next to beans, they can infect cucumbers with fusarium, which will worsen the growth and quality of the crop.

2. Potatoes will damage cucumbers, as they have common pests. Not only the Colorado potato beetle, but also nematodes.

3. Watermelons and melons should also be kept away from the cucumber bed. They can cross-pollinate and compete for nutrients.

4. Another bad example is the proximity to tomatoes. The harvest will be bad for both cucumbers and tomatoes.

The crops will lack nutrients, but they have a lot in common in terms of pests and diseases.
