Gooseberries are considered very healthy. They are recommended to be eaten fresh, but you can also make wonderful jam.
There should be something to collect from the bush - that's the main thing. And for this, the plants must be fertilized in the spring.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told when and how to feed gooseberries.
When to fertilize bushes
In order not to make a mistake due to differences in climatic and weather conditions, you need to focus on the behavior of the plant.
You won’t make a mistake if you start feeding the bush when it wakes up, i.e. the buds begin to swell.
How to fertilize gooseberries
You can feed the bushes with mineral and organic fertilizers, but the latter are considered more preferable for the spring.
In spring, it is better to add compost prepared at home or other natural additives, including those purchased in the store, under the gooseberries.
Bone meal, which contains calcium and phosphorus, is good at this time, but it does not contain much nitrogen.
As for mineral fertilizers, they are no less useful and even easier to use than organic ones.
For the first feeding of gooseberries you can take:
- urea (15 grams per 1 square meter);
- superphosphate (25 grams per same area);
- potassium sulfate (15 grams);
- nitroammophoska (20 grams).
You can also use wood ash or dolomite flour.
