Of all the varieties of cabbage, cauliflower is considered the most capricious. Gardeners often grow it using the seedling method.
And in order to get strong seedlings, a number of conditions must be met.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", a scientist, agronomist and landscape designer, told how to grow cauliflower seedlings.
When to sow
Much depends on the climatic conditions of each region, but planting in the ground should be carried out after 45 days.
On average, summer residents begin sowing in the second half of March or at the beginning of April.
How to grow seedlings
1. Cauliflower seeds are soaked for 20 minutes in water at about 50 degrees Celsius, after which they are processed in a pink solution of potassium permanganate.
2. It is important to prepare nutritious soil by mixing turf soil, humus and peat. Don't forget about disinfection.
3. The seeds are planted in the soil to a depth of no more than 1 cm, lightly sprinkled with loose soil.
Before the emergence of seedlings, the air temperature should be 18-20 degrees.
4. From 15 to 20 days after emergence, picking is carried out.
The seedlings are planted in individual containers and better in peat cups. The fact is that the seedlings grow weak and the extra stress in the form of transplanting into the ground will not do any good.
Top dressing
The first feeding is carried out 10 days after picking. The second one is carried out 10 days later.
Potassium sulfate (10 g) and superphosphate (20 g) are used per 10 liters of water.
Transfer
In addition to the time frame (45 days), summer residents are advised to transplant seedlings into the soil after 5 true leaves appear.
It is best to have legumes or root vegetables growing in the garden bed before cauliflower.
