With proper care, a couple of bushes of garden blueberries can give a generous harvest. Although it is believed that the plant in the forest yields a harvest without additional feeding, this cannot be done with garden blueberries.
At the very least, it needs acidic soil, but it also cannot do without fertilizing.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", a scientist agronomist and landscape designer, told how and when to feed blueberries.
When to feed
The first feeding is planned for the end of March or the beginning of April. The main sign is swollen buds.
The second feeding after flowering (May – beginning of June).
The third is planned for the period after the harvest.
What to feed
Nitrogen-containing additives are added for the first time.
The best option is ammonium sulfate or nitroammophoska, which are applied after thorough watering.
Then the soil is mulched with peat, pine cones or other materials.
For the second feeding, potassium sulfate and magnesium sulfate are used.
What you shouldn't feed
Do not add wood ash, droppings, manure or humus.
Because of them, the soil becomes alkaline, and blueberries love an acidic environment.
