If you want to grow healthy and strong seedlings of early cabbage, you should carefully study the information about the timing of sowing seeds of this crop.
According to the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , the main factors influencing the timing of sowing early cabbage seeds should be considered the growing conditions and the growing method.
We suggest starting from the beginning, that is, with growing conditions.
So, the optimal temperature for growing cabbage is 12-16 degrees.
At higher temperatures and insufficient lighting, seedlings may stretch out and take root worse when transplanted into open ground, which significantly slows down plant growth and, accordingly, reduces their yield.
Now let's talk about the method of growing seedlings.
If you are going to grow seedlings in separate cups without subsequent picking, with the possibility of lowering the temperature, then sowing should be done 45-55 days before the planned planting in the ground.
If the plans include growing seedlings in a common container with picking at a temperature of 18-20 degrees, then it is better to postpone sowing to a later date to avoid excessive stretching of the seedlings. In this case, cabbage seeds should be placed in the ground 35-45 days before the expected planting.
What is better? Experienced farmers recommend growing seedlings in cups, as this ensures better growth and early fruiting.
But if this is not possible, then you can grow seedlings by picking.
