You can grow a rich harvest of eggplants if you work hard enough to grow seedlings.
To do this, you need to know how and when to sow the seeds of a capricious crop. There is much to learn here.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication BelNovosti, an agronomist and landscape designer, told how and when to sow eggplants in 2024.
When to sow eggplants
The period for sowing this crop for seedlings lasts from February to early April.
It is not recommended to sow seeds in open ground, because flowering may begin only at the end of summer.
The best times to sow are: February 11, 12, 15, 16, 19-21; March 13, 14, 18, 19; April 10, 11, 14, 15.
How to sow
1. The soil should be loose and light. This can be a ready-made mixture or a mixture of sand, lowland peat and compost in a ratio of 1:4:3.
2. It is better to use individual containers, as eggplants do not like picking. Ideally, peat tablets or cups.
3. It is better to buy hybrid seeds – they germinate better and grow well.
Before sowing, they need to be warmed up in a jar of water at a temperature of 40-50 degrees for 3-5 minutes under a lid, and then in a 10% solution of hydrogen peroxide.
Then you need to harden the seeds by keeping them in a damp cloth for one day at room temperature, and then in the refrigerator for five hours.
The procedure is carried out for a week.
Earlier we talked about how to feed seedlings so that the plant roots are very strong.
