If you are not familiar with the name cosmos, you may have come across the name “disheveled lady” – this is what people call the flower because of its thin foliage, which resembles tangled curls.

Not only the appearance of the plant is remarkable, but also its properties, which were described by the expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh .

Firstly, cosmos is able to attract honey bees, bumblebees and other beneficial insects that destroy pests.

Secondly, its green mass can be used for mulching beds or for incorporation into the soil.

After itself, cosmos leaves a lot of useful organic matter in the soil, which increases fertility and helps areas where liming was carried out or dolomite was added.

Thirdly, the underground part of this flower is also useful: the roots of cosmos secrete special substances that have a detrimental effect on many pests, in particular, nematodes.

Finally, fourthly: the substances secreted by the flower lead to the fact that microorganisms that actively accumulate and deliver phosphorus to plants actively develop.

Thus, cosmos helps to replenish the reserves of phosphorus available to plants.

Earlier, BelNovosti wrote about how to properly sow peppers for seedlings.
