Growing green onions is not a difficult task. You can simply stick the bulb in a glass of water and soon pluck the feathers.
Experienced gardeners consider this approach amateurish and prefer to grow green onions thoroughly.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told what to pay attention to in order to collect a rich harvest of greens.
First of all, lighting
Regardless of whether onions are grown for greens or in a garden bed for the winter, they need a lot of light.
It is best to choose the southern or south-eastern side for planting. In other cases, you cannot do without additional lighting.
Secondly, watering
This point only applies to those who grow onions in the ground. In this case, the plantings are watered no more than once every 2 days with a preliminary check of the soil moisture, otherwise the roots of the bulbs will rot.
Thirdly, feeding
Onions on the windowsill are not fed, but in order to increase the yield and quality of greens, a solution is added, which is prepared from 50 grams of wood ash per 10 liters of water.
Fourth, temperature
It is recommended to keep the onion bed in conditions no higher than 20 degrees Celsius, otherwise the plant begins to wither.
Professional secret
To harvest a crop worthy of admiration, do not rush to cut the greens. The first harvest is carried out 3 weeks after planting.
In this case, only the side feathers are cut, while the central ones should continue to grow.
