18.01.2024 14:09

Cabbage-eating caterpillars are a common problem among gardeners, as they can cause significant damage to the crop.

Fortunately, the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh revealed simple and safe methods that will help prevent or eliminate this problem.

Pheromone traps

The method is based on the use of synthetic analogues of pheromones – substances that female butterflies use to attract males.

Pheromones in the traps attract male caterpillars, which are trapped inside, thereby preventing the pests from reproducing.

This method is environmentally friendly and does not pose a danger to other types of insects.

Biological insecticides

Another safe method is insecticides such as bacillin or bitoxybacillin, which contain strains of special bacteria. Getting inside the caterpillars, they kill the insects, while these bacteria cannot harm humans or pets.

Hand picking

Patience and hard work, as they say, can even deal with cabbage caterpillars. When inspecting the beds, remember that pests can often be found on the back of leaves or inside cabbage heads.

Earlier, the expert told what to do with tomatoes so that they do not burst.
