One of the problems for a gardener growing tomato seedlings is their stretching.

However, the seedlings that have started to grow can still be saved. The main thing is to notice in time and know what to do with the shoots.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told how to prevent seedlings from stretching.

Why is this happening?

The main reason is poor lighting. The seedlings may not have enough sunlight or artificial light if the lamp is installed incorrectly.

The same thing can happen if the air temperature in the house is high and the soil is too wet.

How to avoid problems

1. In any case, you need to use high-quality phytolamps, which also need to be installed correctly.

2. It is important that the lamp characteristics correspond to the required spectrum of light wave.

Each lamp manufacturer determines for itself at what height its lamp should be placed.

3. It is important to turn on the lamps for at least 14 hours a day.

4. Also, seedlings should not grow closer than 2.5-5 cm from each other.

5. It is best to grow seedlings in conditions of 18-21 degrees Celsius during the day and 12-15 at night.

If the seedlings have stretched out

First of all, you need to eliminate the cause that caused the seedlings to stretch out.

Then you need to transplant the seedlings and deepen them to the level of the first leaves.

When in contact with the soil, tomatoes will put out new roots from the stems, the main thing is not to bury the leaves, otherwise the seedling will die.
