Summer residents have already become accustomed to the fact that winter snowdrifts do not last long and that instead of snowstorms, there are often heavy rains outside the window in winter.
How to protect trees
To help trees better withstand bad weather, it is better to prepare in the fall.
To do this, you need to prune the tree so that snow or ice does not accumulate on old or extra branches.
The sparser the tree crown, the less likely it is that the branches will crack under the weight of snow or ice and break.
What to do in winter
You can hear a lot about winter pruning of fruit trees. But if the weather is damp, then pruning should not be done even in winter.
In this case, it would be more correct to place supports under the trees.
To avoid damaging the bark, be sure to place rubber or a thick layer of fabric under the base of the support.
Bushes are usually tied into bundles - this way they will definitely not break under the snow or in the wind.
But it is not recommended to knock ice off trees. The ice will melt with the slightest warming or as soon as the sun comes out.
Conifers
Special attention should be paid to coniferous plants at this time. A lot of snow accumulates on the spreading branches, and therefore the branches of thuja, spruce or other conifers are tied with twine or covering material.
