Not all water is suitable for watering cultivated plants, including indoor ones – decorative and flowering ones.
In some cases, the composition of water may be contraindicated, and its use in the long term may lead to the death of flowers.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told what kind of water can destroy indoor plants.
It is not only chlorine, which is often found in tap water, that is harmful.
1. Water purified with chlorine can damage the roots and have a negative effect on the composition of the soil.
This type of watering can also destroy beneficial soil microorganisms.
2. Avoid watering with water that contains a high level of salts.
According to experts, dehydration cannot be avoided in such a case.
3. Hard water is also not suitable for irrigation. It contains a lot of magnesium and calcium, and an excess of these substances negatively affects the development of plants.
How to check water quality
There is nothing easier than to identify hard water with excess salt and other minerals by the abundance of limescale on kitchen utensils or plumbing.
The presence of chlorine in water can be detected simply by smell.
