Peony belongs to the category of long-lived decorative plants, but it cannot please its owner with large flowers forever.
There comes a time when the flowers become smaller and the bush itself gradually thins out.
Sometimes it happens that flowering stops altogether.
Let's see how the expert of the online publication "Belnovosti" and agronomist Anastasia Kovrizhnykh advises to rejuvenate the bush.
How to rejuvenate a peony bush
You can rejuvenate the peony next year from mid-August to mid-September in warm weather.
How to do it.
- All stems are cut by two-thirds to make it easier to work with.
- At a distance of 25 cm from the bush, dig a hole 30-40 cm deep and remove the top layer of soil.
- Insert a garden fork under the roots and rock the bush until roots appear.
- Place the flower on its side and clean the roots from soil using a stream of water.
- Leave the bush in the shade for a few hours.
- Before dividing, remove all remaining stems. Shorten thin roots to 5 cm. Do not touch thick roots.
- Divide the bush into divisions - each should have up to 5 buds and three healthy roots.
- Remove rotten parts and dried rhizomes, dip in a pink solution of potassium permanganate, let dry and plant.
