The use of unsuitable fertilizers is a common cause of low currant yields.
If a gardener wants to get a lot of large and sweet berries, he should refuse to use certain means.
Otherwise, the plant will primarily develop green mass, but serious problems will arise with the quality of the fruit.
An expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh told what should not be fed to currants.
Dangerous fertilizers for currants
This crop is "afraid" of excess nitrogen. Therefore, at any time of the year, compounds with an abundance of the corresponding component pose a particular danger to the plant.
First of all, we are talking about urea and ammonium nitrate.
By the way, currant bushes will also react poorly to some types of organic matter (manure, humus). But this will only happen in the warm season.
How and what to feed currants with
In spring and summer, organic fertilizers can harm the plant. But closer to the end of autumn (but before the onset of frost and snow), humus in the root zone will have a positive effect on the crop.
By the beginning of the next summer cottage season, the organic matter will have time to decompose, so the currant bushes will receive enough potassium and phosphorus. But there will be no excess nitrogen.
As for mineral fertilizers, in the spring months currants will "react" well to potassium monophosphate. A couple of tablespoons of the product per bucket of clean water.
