Why do the cores of flowering strawberries turn black: don't expect a harvest

If you have a couple of beds on your plot set aside for strawberries, you probably noticed during flowering that the center of the flowers turns black.

Such flowers will no longer be able to produce berries, says Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication BelNovosti, an agronomist and landscape designer.

Let's figure out what causes this phenomenon.

The good news is that blackened cores are not related to pests or diseases. The bad news is that black flowers appear due to night frosts.

Of course, if the flowers have already turned black, it will not be possible to save them, but the problem can still be prevented.

To do this, carefully monitor the weather forecast and, having learned that a cold snap is coming, mulch the strawberry patch.

Straw, humus, peat, pine needles, etc. can be used as mulching material.

In addition, to save strawberry bushes from night frosts, use acrylic.

Finally, experienced gardeners advise watering strawberries before and after frosts with diammophos. Afterwards, you can carry out another procedure - spraying with zircon.
