Many people prefer to plant onions closer to winter, as this method has a number of advantages.
The most important task is to check the soil for readiness for planting.
First of all, you should make sure that the soil contains sufficient nutrients, since onions will be in dire need of them, says Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert at the online publication BelNovosti, a landscape designer and agronomist.
How to properly prepare the soil
First, you need to select crops that could be called good predecessors. Pay attention to the beds that "rested" with the help of green manure: this option can safely be called ideal.
A good option would be a plot after beets and carrots. You can safely plant onions after radishes.
Once you have decided on a location, you need to start working with the ground itself.
First, the soil is enriched with compost and active digging begins. After this procedure, the soil should rest for some time.
Then we need to make special furrows, the depth of which will be about fifteen centimeters. In them we put compost again.
The fertilizer layer should not exceed two centimeters.
Just this one feeding will be enough to grow a decent harvest of winter onions.
