Growing carrots is certainly quite a troublesome business, so it is important not to “miss” the moment of harvesting, so that your work is not in vain.

An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh told how to understand that carrots are ripe.

If the carrot is ready to be dug up, its foliage, which is located at the bottom, has almost completely turned yellow, and the middle tier of shoots has turned a greenish-yellow-brown hue.

Not only the color of the tops is important, but also their “behavior” – as a rule, by this time they lie on the ground.

Carefully inspect the beds: root crops “say” that they are ready for harvesting by protruding 1-1.5 cm from the soil.

To assess the condition of the fruit, dig up 2-3 pieces and assess their diameter and length.

These indicators must correspond to the declared varietal characteristics.

Finally, on vegetables that can be removed from the ground and stored, you can notice tiny roots that have a whitish color.
